Mass Transportation
We encourage the use of mass transit, especially since Rutgers University–Newark is only a few blocks from Newark Penn Station. You can also commute to campus via bus and light rail. Visit NJ Transit online to access information about the train, bus, light rail, and related apps:

Note: As a Rutgers University student, you can receive a 25 percent discount from NJ Transit.
Shuttles and Buses
Rutgers University–Newark provides a number of shuttles and buses for students. Shuttle and bus options include:

Parking and Permits
Note: Fall 2018 Parking Permits are not yet available for puchase. We will announce it on our home page once it's available.
To park on campus, you must purchase a student parking permit. You can purchase parking permits online or in person at the Department of Transportation Services, which is located at

Parking Citations
You may receive citations for parking in non-approved locations. If you receive a citation, you can pay the citation online.
RU-N Student Commuter Awards Program
Students who forego purchasing a Rutgers parking permit and purchase monthly passes from NJ Transit or PATH to commute to/from Rutgers-Newark will earn a reward that can be redeemed from the Barnes & Noble at Rutgers University – Newark, Kite + Key Rutgers Tech Store, or Starbucks for up to $50 monthly. Details about participating in this rewards program will be announced in the coming weeks.
Pop Up Events
Students can visit a Parking pop-up event at Rutgers University-Newark to obtain a free pass for one ride on NJ Transit’s Newark Light Rail.
