Confirming Your Attendance

In This Section

All registered students must confirm their intention to attend. Here's how.

What Confirming Your Attendance Means and Why It Matters

Rutgers University has a unique process called “confirmation of attendance.” Every student is required to do this each semester for Rutgers University–Newark to verify that you intend to be a student here during the semester for which you are confirming. Confirmation of attendance ensures the following:

  • Appropriate payment of federal financial aid to your student account (if eligible)
  • Your acceptance of financial responsibility for the classes you register for each semester
  • Your intention to attend the current semester at RU–N for which you are registered

Bill payment and confirmation of attendance go hand in hand. In actuality, for us, they are one and the same. When you log in to your online student account at finservices.rutgers.edu/otb, to pay your bill via electronic check or credit card, the completed payment process will confirm your attendance.

If you log in to your online student account and view a term bill with a zero or credit balance (due to excess financial aid), there will be no payment required, but you still need to click a confirmation of attendance button to confirm your attendance. Term bill payment in person at one of our regional cashiers' offices will also satisfy this requirement. You will be able to pay there by cash, check, or money order and confirm your attendance at the same time.

How to Confirm Your Attendance

All registered undergraduate and graduate students must confirm their attendance.

If your balance is zero or shows a credit (cr):
  • Log in to your online student account at finservices.rutgers.edu/otb.
  • Select the semester for which you are confirming your attendance/paying the bill.
  • Click on the "Continue to Online Bill Payment to Confirm Attendance" button located near the bottom of the account page.
  • Verify the credits to your account.
If your account shows a balance, but you anticipate financial aid, grants, loans, or tuition remission to cover the balance:

For those students whose account shows a balance but who have financial aid or additional private loans, like NJCLASS, Sallie Mae, tuition remission, or a third-party vendor/corporate billing, that fully cover the balance due and those credits do not yet appear on your term bill, you must confirm your attendance by mailing or delivering in person an adjusted copy of your term bill. To do so, follow these instructions:

  • Log in to your student account and print your term bill by selecting the "Print Your Term Bill" link under "Payment Options" when viewing your student account.
  • Deduct the credits and adjust the amount due.
  • Send the adjusted term bill (as proof of payment) to:

Rutgers, The State University
Term Bill Processing Unit
P.O. Box 2021
New Brunswick, NJ 08903

Note: You can also bring your adjusted term bill to one of the cashiers' offices.

Student Accounting will confirm your attendance once this information is processed.
