Mask Up, Newark!

Out of an abundance of caution, we are asking students to complete tasks online and speak with offices via email or phone where they can. You can access most items via our website http://myrun.newark.rutgers.edu.  You can also call the myRUN call center at 973-353-1766 ext 1.  We would also encourage students to check this page often for updates.

Message from Chancellor Cantor: Returning to RU-N 1/31

Monday, January 24, 2022

Dear Rutgers University-Newark community members,

This past fall, Rutgers-Newark was revivified as we returned to campus. After many months apart, we experienced how much it really does matter to us to be able to see and support each other in person, better positioning us to reap the diversity bonus we gain by bringing our full selves to the table, whether that table is in a classroom, lab, or office. As summarized in Friday’s university-wide message, we can all eagerly look forward to returning to in-person instruction and work once again on January 31!

Academic and non-academic offices will be open and operating in person at Rutgers-Newark effective January 31. Staff members should consult their supervisors regarding scheduling. While we may be experiencing a bit of déjà vu, having already experienced a restart at the beginning of the fall semester, there are some important reminders to share and some specific logistical arrangements for activities and services on campus to note.

  • First and foremost, if you have not yet received both your full course of inoculation against COVID-19, please review the summarized new requirements regarding vaccine boosters for students and employees. Boosters/vaccinations are available on campus. The Rutgers-Newark vaccination site located at Ackerson Hall, 180 University Avenue, Room 101. Rutgers-Newark employees and students may register for a vaccination appointment here: https://rtr.ipo.rutgers.edu/vaccines/.
  • As you prepare yourself for returning, please also be sure to review the Guide to Returning to Rutgers.
  • Masking protocols for indoor spaces remain in place and daily self-screening using the My Campus Pass is still required for all Rutgers-Newark community members who will be on campus. Two KN95 face coverings will be made available to all students; locations for picking up masks will be the Paul Robeson Campus Center, Center for Law and Justice, and Rutgers Business School at 1 Washington Park starting Monday, January 31. Likewise, two KN95 face coverings will be made available to all faculty and staff members through their deans and department offices starting Monday, January 31.
  • Residence halls will re-open to students over the weekend of January 29 and 30, 2022. Detailed information from the Office of Housing and Residence Life for resident students can be found here under the "Living On Campus" tab and will be shared with students via email.
  • Add/Drop period for Spring 2022 has been extended to Thursday, January 27, to allow more time for students to finalize their course schedules.
  • Host of in-person events on campus, which will resume January 31, will need to check vaccination and/or negative COVID-19 PCR test status for all attendees. For events sponsored/hosted by Rutgers students and attended only by Rutgers students, displaying proof of vaccine or negative test is not required; a current Rutgers student ID card will be required for attendance at the event.

Additional information about campus protocols and accessing services at Rutgers-Newark is provided below. Please review it carefully before heading back to campus next week.

The pandemic has presented enduring challenges to many of us—from the impacts of illness and the loss of loved ones, to juggling responsibilities such as child or elder care, to navigating boundaries between work and personal time and space, and many more. As we anticipate the start of the new semester and look forward eagerly to being back on campus together, we do so while recommitting to be a community of caring, mutual understanding, and mutual support.

Stay healthy and safe!

Cordially,

Nancy Cantor

Chancellor
