Office of International Students & Scholar Services

The Office of International Student & Scholar Services (OISS) assists over 1600 international students, scholars and their dependents in Rutgers University - Newark through the following services:

• Orientation programs for new international students
• Advising F-1 students and J-1 exchange visitors on maintaining legal status
• Maintaining accurate SEVIS records
• Employment authorization
• Liaison services with state/federal agencies
• Cultural events
• Referrals to other Rutgers offices
• Consultation for University offices on immigration issues

The Office of International Student & Scholar Services (OISS) is the primary resource center, striving always for excellence in service to the international community of Rutgers University - Newark.

MISSION

• Advise international students and scholars on compliance with immigration laws and regulations;
• Provide support to international students and scholars in cultural and social adjustment; Foster effective cross-cultural communications and mutual understanding;
• Assist academic departments in their international initiatives and help nurturing growth of international programs;
• Ensure institutional compliance to immigration regulations governing enrollment of F-1 students and J-1 exchange visitors.
