Garden State Guarantee & Rutgers University 

   

The Garden State Guarantee (GSG) is New Jersey’s promise to make a college degree more accessible and affordable. By reducing out-of-pocket costs for students and families, New Jersey is limiting the amount of debt that residents must borrow to attend an in-state public college or university.

Who is Eligible

Eligible students include Rutgers University 3rd & 4th year undergraduate students (new and continuing) who are enrolled full time (12+ credits), legally qualify for in-state tuition, and have earned between 60-128 credits. At Rutgers University, students with 60-89 earned credits are defined as juniors (3rd year) and students with 90-128 earned credits are defined as seniors (4th year). NOTE: For those students in Fall 2022, the 4th year students were defined by 90-126 credits; the update to 4th year credits was made in spring 2023.

 

Rutgers University’s Garden State Guarantee Commitment

Rutgers University is committed to access and affordability. The university has expanded eligibility for Garden State Guarantee by increasing financial support for students and families with an Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) up to $100,000.

How to Apply

Rutgers students must complete the FAFSA OR the NJ Alternative Financial Aid Application by the published state deadlines. Use Rutgers University School Code: 002629. No other application is needed.

Newly Admitted Part-time Students with 60 Credits or More

Newly admitted Rutgers University-Newark 3rd & 4th year undergraduate students who are enrolled part-time (11 credits and less), legally qualify for in-state tuition, and have earned between 60-120 credits may qualify for RUN to the TOP.  Part-time students are not eligible for Garden State Guarantee. At Rutgers University, students with 60-89 earned credits are defined as juniors (3rd year) and students with 90-120 earned credits are defined as seniors (4th year).
