What Is an RU ID Card?
The RU ID card is the official photo identification card issued to faculty, staff, students, and guests on all Rutgers University campuses. This unified RU ID card serves as the primary form of identity verification throughout the University. Based on your role within the Rutgers University community, the RU ID card may be used to access services including:
- Checkout privileges at any of the Rutgers University libraries
- Recreation centers and computer lab facilities
- Entry to football games and other events
- Purchased meal plans and debit account options
- Assigned housing and other buildings
- Parking lots (permit required)
- Identification for transactions with Student Accounting and Registrar
- Attendance verification for classes and exams
How Can I Obtain A New or Replacement RU ID Card:
Beginning July 1, 2020 RU ID cards for students will be available by mail only.
RU ID cards will be issued by mail for all eligible students seeking a new or replacement ID card. To request an ID card, contact the myRUN Supportal to have one mailed to you. Newly admitted first year and transfer students will have their RU ID card mailed to the address on record after attending their respective school's orientation session. To confirm or update your mailing address, please login here. If you have submitted a photo and received approval, expect to receive your RU ID card by the first day of the term.
Undergraduate and Transfer Students
All new students must be registered for classes to be eligible for a student RU ID card, and submit a photo online for approval using the photo submission process. There is no fee charged for the first issuance of the RU ID card. A replacement fee of $20 applies to lost, stolen, or intentionally damaged cards (See Lost/Replacement RU ID Cards). Verified replacement card requests will be mailed 1 time per week.
Graduate Students

Special Programs
Students in special programs (Continuous Education and Outreach, and Program in American Language Studies (PALS)) will receive information from their program director or secretary on how to obtain an RU ID card, if they are eligible.
Eligible students in these programs have access to Rutgers University libraries and computer labs by special arrangement, but not recreation facilities or sporting events.
