While undergraduate exchange programs between Rutgers and NJIT (formerly Newark College of Engineering) date back to the 1960s, a more comprehensive program, including graduate programs, was established in 1972. These programs were approved by the executive committee of the Council of Higher Education in Newark (CHEN). The original exchange programs included Rutgers University–Newark (RU–N) and Newark College of Engineering (currently NJIT). The procedures have evolved over the years to include exchange with Essex County College (ECC). Listed below are the current procedures regarding exchange registration with these institutions and RU–N:

Exchange Registration is only available to RU–N matriculated students enrolled in a degree program.

Note: There is no exchange program conducted during the summer or winter sessions. As such, students must register and enroll directly at the host institutions to attend summer and/or winter courses offered there.

With regard to billing, you pay all tuition and fees to your "home" school during the regular fall and spring semesters, while payment is made to the "host" school during the summer and winter sessions.

With regard to grading, satisfactory completion of exchange registration courses taken at NJIT appear as an Exchange Course with credit applied toward the degree, grades will be posted on your permanent record, and your term/cumulative GPA will be calculated accordingly. Satisfactory completion of exchange registration courses taken at ECC appear as an Exchange Course with credit applied toward the degree; however, the grade will not be posted, nor will it be calculated in the term/cumulative GPA.

NJIT Exchange Registration

NJIT has updated their Fall 2020 course schedule grid. Rutgers University-Newark students are strongly encouraged to review their schedules to see how the NJIT Fall 2020 course schedule grid may, if at all,  impact their exchange registration plan.

NOTE: Non-matriculating students may not register for NJIT courses via this Exchange Registration agreement.
