Message from Intercultural Resource Center (IRC) Team

June 1, 2020

Rutgers University-Newark Family,

The deaths of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and George Floyd, in addition the countless number of killings, policing and pain experienced by the black community has emotionally wounded our student leaders and the Rutgers University-Newark community.  Conversations over the past couple of days with the Intercultural Resource Center (IRC) team, student leaders, and the Rutgers University-Newark family reminded me of the 1969 Conklin Hall Takeover.  The actions of black students who, through their decisive action, demanded support for their student population as well the rights for other minority students. Years later, the actions have resulted in the current beauty of the rich diversity reflected in our community today.  With their spirit and the needed call for action in mind, the Intercultural Resource Center (IRC) will be doing the following:

The IRC hopes that these offerings provide the first steps in setting the tone for continued conversations with all members of our community and support toward all those most personally impacted.

Mel, Maria, and I stand in anguish with you.  Most of all, we stand in solidarity and ask to please, take care and be safe.

In Unity,
