Computer Recommendations for Students 

With financial aid, Rutgers University-Newark may be more affordable than you think. 

Follow the steps below and complete the Transfer Student Checklist:

  1. File a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible!

2024-2025 FAFSA Now Available!

 

  1. If you already completed a FAFSA, add us to your application. School code: 002629
  2. Priority dates: Spring Admission- November 15; Fall Admission- February 15 (2024-2025 FAFSA ONLY).
  3. Check your eligibility for New Jersey State Grants
    1. To be considered for NJ State Grants, answer the additional Higher Education Assistance and Authority (HESAA) questions and submit any required documents.
    2. Do not miss the HESAA deadline! (Fall 224 has been adjusted with the release of the new 2024-2025 FAFSA)
  4. Are you an EOF transfer student? Eligible for U.S. Military benefits? If you answered yes to any of these, click here.
     
  5. Complete the Transfer Student Checklist.

Scholarships

Scholarships can help to offset the cost of attending the university. Here are a few scholarships:
 

The Honors Living-Learning Community (HLLC)

HLLC is a transformative college access and success program that fosters the academic, social, and personal development of talented first-year and transfer students with a desire to make a difference in their communities and beyond.

Key Benefits:

  • Offers a residential scholarship that covers room and board
  • Provides personalized faculty mentoring and academic advisement
  • Exposes students to meaningful internships and research assistantships
  • Helps students with academic promise to realize their dreams

Rutgers University-Newark Talent and Opportunity Pathways (RU-N to the TOP)

RU-N to the TOP program is a financial aid program that provides a “last-dollar” scholarship covering the cost of in-state tuition and mandatory school fees after all federal, state, and internal/external scholarships and grants have been applied.

Note: RU-N to the TOP scholarship is offered for both fall and spring enrollment.

Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Scholarship

PTK recipients are notified by April for fall enrollment. Criteria for consideration are specific so please review them carefully.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Students who are enrolled full-time in a transfer program at a community college at the time of application
  • Students who are a member of their community college’s Phi theta Kappa Honor Society at the tie of application.
  • Students who have completed 50 credits at the time of application
  • Students who will be earning an associates’ degree in arts or science by the time of enrollment and have a minimum grade point average of 3.8 for consideration; grades form all college courses are considered
  • Students must enroll directly from the associate degree-granting community college, with no intervening enrollment at another institution
